3-Series (E46, E90)Chat relating to the BMW 3-Series from 1999 to Current. Models include: BMW 316i, BMW 318i, BMW 318Ci, BMW 320i, BMW 323i, BMW 325i, BMW 330i, BMW 328 Ci, BMW 328i, BMW 325i/xi, BMW 330Ci, BMW 320d, BMW 330d, BMW 335d.
Hi All, been a while since I've posted in here, FINNALY done with this semester.
Here's my newest problem:
A few days ago, here in NJ, the temp dropped sharply to 4 degF. I got to my car, scrapped off the ice and got it, started her up. The hazards were tripped and they didn't want to go off. Thinking that it would diminish as the engine warmed everything up which they did, I didn't pay to much attention to it.
Then I noticed that reguardless of the power being on or off, everytime I open the two front doors (not rear), the windows open about 1/4 in, then when I close the doors, they as well close.
Some of you may remember that I have NO ALARM SYSTEM in my car. I also have never had anyone re-program the ECU to show a fake system. With that said, try to explain this: When the doors are locked, the clown nose blinks... continuously until unlocked. ... looks cool, but it shouldn't be happening.
Now... I was reading in the E46fanatics forum about problems with model year's 99-00 where upon inital starting of the car in cold weather, the rpm's will dip quickly then regain the higher rpm. This would happen continuously until the engine is warm. I read that this was due to the faulty $1500 VANOS system part that most if not all early E46's will encounter.
Is there a connection to the above symptoms? Anyone posted something like this a while back? I tried a search, but didn't get something like this.
So what's going on? How do I fix these glitches... meaning, kill those damn gremlins!!!
btw, I'm due in a few hundred miles for an Inspection II.... anyone recommend a NJ area dealer?
Thanks
Dough

there is a software update for 330, issued about 4 months ago or so. it may solve the wondering idle for you, have them load it at inspectionII. takes about 45 mins to load...
Have'nt had that problem on my car, but as far as the window problem, you can check your manual and it might be that somehow your car has adjusted itself that way, it's an easy fix. Usually, manually with a special tool, you can adjust the way you want the window to set by removing the side door molding, there's a hole there where the tool goes in and the adjuster's are in there. Might want to be patiant with that, I already broke a window. As for the hazard's, I have no idea but usually with that type of thing happening check your fuse. If not one of your bulbs may be causing a ground fault....
Forgot to tell you, that the door window's are set up that way for an airtight seal. When you unlock, the windows roll down so they don't hit the molding right above, then when you close the door the windows roll back up for an airtight cabin. It's automatic.. If they don't roll down, on opening the door, the window will hit that molding, and may cause damage.

Well if it's automatic, then why is it only starting now, after the vehicle had reached 5 years of age? And I thought that only happened on convertables, I have a Sedan.

It's official, she thought she was a coupe. How, I do not know. The dealer said that she would need a reprograming of the "DME" at $102.82 to correct the problem. He noticed that the fault codes comming up indicated that it was never programed to act in a Sedan. So he said, guessing that is, that she had her computer replaced at some time with out being programed correctly. He couldnt' check the actual computer, as it was buried deep in the dash, to confirm this.

btw, Insepection II charge was at $451.91 at Hunterdon BMW, in Lebanon, NJ. Cheapest around. Look here for the results.
