eating coils! - BMW Forum

My 2002, 320 convertible keeps blowing coils, BMW keeps changing them and within a week I am back on 5 cylinders and back in BMW workshops. I am getting seriously VEXED!

: all BMW keep doing is changing them and not trying to find out why they go.
There is no patern to when they go, I may be driving and will suddenly drop a cylinder, or may start car in the morning and will only fire up on 5.
Has anyone had similar problem or heard of it? and if so, any idea what the cause could be?

bremi coils had a recall recently. otherwise, i do not know. perhaps voltage regulator (or modern car equivalent), bad plug wires which short....

I would be checking the wiring...since there are no plug wires on a coil over plug system...also is it the same cyl each time or do you know for sure?

good point about "plug" wires (my mistake): for low voltage wires it would take ALOT of damage to make a short.

is there any crap accumulated around the plugs? that can also sometimes do it....

Thanx for the feedback,
has been a different coil all 3 times since I had all coils changed last December due to other issues. So as you said Peter, obviously a bad batch. I got them to replace the other 3 as well as the blown one.
Running sweet again
