I could have swore that the 325 had a 2.5L engine... where you are you getting this information... ? Or am I just stupid.... and everyone else knows this information already?
Do not be so harsh to yourself LOL
Actually BMW introduced 323i E90 model with 2.5 litre engine and 174 hp.
325i and 330i have both 3.0 litres engines with different power output ,215 hp for 325i and 255hp for 330i.
Z.
They are using the same 3 liter engines as in the 525 and 530. The 530 is tuned differently and has different in ternal, hence drawing more power from the same displacement. The z4 will be using the same engines: z4 3.0i and z4 3.0is (255hp).

^^ Having seen the published figures, I agree with you. I can understand them squeezing more HP from the 330, but the torque figure doesn't seem right. I wouldn't be surprised if BMW is under-rating it in order to justify the higher price of the 330.

the E90 325 and 330 have the same engine blocks both being 3.0L of the magnesium alloy. the 330 has a DISA style intake manifold, the 325's intake is molded the same but the runners are not installed and the electronics are not intalled either. The 330 and 325's DME's have different progamming. You are able to get more torque from the 330 in the difference in intake alone. The only difference in the 330 and the 530's engine is the lack of a secondary air system on the 5 series. Hope you all find this informative
We must have different engines to the US models, I guess due to emissions?
In Europe the new E90 has a 215hp 2.5 (325i) and a 258hp 3.0 (330i). The 320i is not a 150hp 2.0 4 cyl (the old model had a 170hp 2.2 6cyl).
The 5-series is different, the 525i & 530i have the same 'new' all alloy engines as the E90, but thr 525i has a 174hp version of the old 2.5 unit.
The only other confusing variants are the 550i (4.8) and the 535d (twin turbo version of 3.0 diesel).
