This is great info!* Here's one I didn't think I saw... on the 2005 models, the CD player recognizes and plays MP3 CD's (ie: 120 songs on 1 700mb disc).* There is no mention of this in any of the literature or the info that came with the car. I just knew that it worked in an '05 Mini Cooper, and the head-units are the same behind the face-plate.* Try it... it works in my car!

FYI: Page 22 of the "Owner's Manual for the Radio" (I have the standard "Business CD") -- "The CD player can also play CDs containing compressed audo data in formats such as MP3 or WMA..." If you've got the same sound system and you didn't get a manual for it you might want to ask your dealer for one. It has a few 'hidden' features that aren't obvious just by playing around with it.

By the way, anyone know if it supports any other formats? The manual seems kind of vague about this.

Of note:
The in dash player only seems to recognize a limited number of files on a disc. I've been squeezing about 30 albums (each in its own folder) onto a disc, but the the player only plays about the first 20 or so (~260 songs) then starts over from the start. I'm assuming its a limitation of the decks internal memory.

Anyone have anything specific on this?

Thanks.

Thats exactly right. It is because the deck runs out of memory. Thats why the amount of tracks/cds per disk varies with the leangth of the songs contained therein.....

Is that a repeat button? I thought that was a back button to go back a track CD.

OMIGOD!!!!!! I've had my 2000 323i for FIVE YEARS!!! Had no idea it did most of this stuff.... mad at my dealer/salesperson! I feel as though I've been enjoying my car in much the same way as one who only uses the microwave to warm up their coffee!!!!! What a waste! Thanks for all the GREAT info.

Soooo, do you know what to do about a sporadic fuel gauge? Shows different "miles remaining" before refueling. Number will change as much as 20 miles, up & down within as few as 8-10 miles of driving at 25-30 mph, around small town.

THANKS

Standard computer representation of numbers is in Base 2. Numerical limits are thus built on Base 2. If you are getting around 260 songs, then it would seem the closest Power-of-2 would be the limit. That is, 2 to the 8th power, or 256. This is a ->very<- common limit on RISC-type computers, which are used when the newer high-powered systems are overkill.

If anyone has ever used older 8bit machines(and older 16bit), you'll remember that when a number gets too high, it "flips" and suddenly is a low negative number. That is what is happening here, except negative numbers arent represented and instead it starts at zero.

Why not make the limit higher? To increase the limit they would have to do one of 2 things. 1)invent a 9bit processor. This isnt going to happen, sorry. Not even BMW. 2)Implement a 16bit procssor. This will likely triple the cost of the stereo. Highly unlikely we'll ever see that, especially since 65536 is too many.

In short, 256 is going to be the limit. Furthermore, if you are using 30 albums, each in its own folder, and still getting approx 256 songs, then the folders dont count against you.

how to make the handles to be used as the seat belt holders?:

Disable Temp Warning

Hi

Does anyone know if it's possible to disable the outside temperature warning. The external temp sensor is up the duff resulting in a warning at time every 20 seconds!! Needless to say it's driving me crazy.

I often see BMW's with all 4 head lights on the park mode. It looks good but mine doesn't seem to do it. Is there a way of activating this? Ta.

Yeah all of it works. The one thing I didn't find out about till maybe 2-3 years of owning my car since I got it in 2001 was the window and sunroof rolldown when you hold down the open locks button on the key. Also insert the key into the door and turn left to open windows and moonroof, turn right to close them up and arm the alarm.

Gonna have to check this one. I'm still disappointed that I didn't get folding door mirrors with a button next to the mirror adjust joystick. Apparently they will still fold up while you are driving up to 20mph. Could someone try this for me?

Also, did you mention that the auto-dimming rear-view mirror un-dims when you put the shift into reverse? It really does work...
