e46 m52tu intake manifold conversion with e36 m50?

Can anybody share some words of wisdom if the e36 m50 intake manifold will work on a e46 m52tu motor? Will there need to be any custom fabricating, changing out the trottle body, fuel rail, or software to make it work? Any info on this will be highly appreciated.

Someone told me once that it is not possible, but I don't remember the exact details why

Ok I did some research and the m50 manifold will not work for a m52tu... But a m54b25 will work. M54 manifold has 50mm diameter while the m52 is 35mm. To make the m54 work, the throttle body gots to be grinded down some for clearence, and a special trottle body adapter plate will be needed to correct the offset of the mounting bolts. I will be trying this modification within the next 2 weeks and will post the outcome of the installation and performance.
