e46 AWD conversion possible?

Hi there,
I to cut the the chase im looking to get myself a e46 3xx Xi project going this summer, end goal is a 3.0 6spd awd. I have been watching for any sort of Xi project car for the last few months and not surprisingly have yet to find one with the "right damage" but have seen plenty of other e46's that would be perfect.

This gets me thinking about crazy things like swapping the entire drive train, or very close to all of it. When i think about it by the time i really like the car i will have rebuilt it at least once anyways. After reviewing a lot of literature and realoem diagrams and pricing part yards i think it could actually be practical.

Im looking for anyone thats possibly tried this before or knows of any little differences between the chassis etc that could cause big problems on the way. Spacificly if the engine block that the front differential hangs under is diffrent. Basicly what im asking is do i need to swap the whole engine or just the bottom of it? Any input is appreciated thanks.

~Tyler

Ya, it's easy, I can show you the steps:

1. Get in existing car
2. Drive to dealer
3. Sign papers for e46 330xi 6sp
4. Drive away
