Hey i JUST baught a 2002 320I in a private sale. when i baught the car the brake pad light was on, i assumed new brake pads were needed which was all negotiated into the purchase price of the vehicle. when i was driving my car in the rain i noticed that the ABS, and the ASC, and brake lights came on as well. Iv read other forums and i hear that the problem may be the ABS module (which is very expensive) but in my case since the brake pad lights were already on before does that mean it may just be the speed sensors?
i really dont want to have to dish out alot for the repairs as i am a poor post secondary student
turned on car this morning, the lights were still one, once when i drove it for about a block they dissappeared. the brake pad light is still there.
This same thing happened to me, today......

I think this happens sometimes if a speed sensor gets dirty, the sensor is unable to read....as for the brake pad light, it could be that when the brakes were last changed the brake pad wear sensor was damaged & left to hang......in any case you will have to check your brakes....for this will be an easy fix.....
johnny,
Start with first things first do the brake pads as you know they were already shot and take it from there....maybe the others will clear if this problem is taken care of..

I havent taken the wheels off yet, but i took a peek through my rim and it looks like there is quite a bit of pad left (about a half inch or a little less). how do i know if the pads need to be replaced or not?

<<< measured from the metal backing, i would say a new pad would be about 6 pennies thick. If they've worn down to say 2 pennies thick, i'd say it's time to change, wdnt you?
But your prob might not be in the pads... it might be in the sensor connections or a bad sensor itself(abt $5.00 a piece)
