E46 Abs, Dsc, "brake" Lights On

ABS, DSC, and "brake" lights went on this morning. The ABS is not working as of now. I am not sure what cuased it. I appreciate your comments and help.

I would have the dealer check out what codes the vehicle has stored, it's kinda hard to diag without seeing what's goin on...it could be a DSC problem, a low fluid problem, or an ABS problem...since all three are intertwined when one fails the others are taken off line.

Had the same problem on my 2000 323i, which I sold on Sunday....

I think on page 117 (if I remember correctly), it tells you that when these three lights come on in conjunciton, it means that the traction control system has FAILED....

To fix it may require one of two things:
1 - If the fault is because of one of your 'WHEEL SPEED SENSORS', the problem is relatively easily fixed......$100 part and 1 hour dealership labor = $200 (depending on whether or not it is just one wheel speed sensor, 2 3 or all 4).

2 - It could be the abs control module, which is a $2-$3K fix (ouch)....

My lights used to come on and then go off, so the problem was rare.....I read on another forum that if the lights come-on-go-off, it COULD be that your wheel speed sensor is DIRTY, so cleaning it MAY help (although I'm not sure how to clean them). If you try cleaning and it doesn't work, then I would check with the dealer, who will suggest (1) or (2) from above.

I had one in last week on a 328Cic...it was a combo of 2 things...1) the steering angle sensor was open on the CAN line so it could not communicate 2) the DSC control unit was internally faulty...I had about a million codes to sort through.

Hi guys I am new to this community. Read all the threads regarding the ABS ASC problems in 5 series. Mine is a bit different
ok. I replaced the passenger side lower control arm and washed the engine that day. next day filled up the gas and started the car... found out my traction light and abs lights are on. Lost speedo, lost cruise control and fuel consumption guage not working.
Tried to scan the code .. NO COMMUNICATION WITH THE ABS !!!
Scanner goes in enging, transmission etc but no communication with the abs
Read all the threads if the module is not working the BRAKE LIGHT should come on the dash aswell. but i dont have any brake light on. Its just the ABS ASC permanent all the time.
Checked all the wires from pass front wheel sensor and abs module and the fuses for the abs and traction as posted on other threads.. all looks good
