E46 328i '00 Steering vibration. Can't fix. HELP !

I have E46 328i. When I bought the car, two rims were bent. That made me belive it was the cause of my steering vibration (shakes left and right). I recently got four new rims and tires. The vibration ramained the same, therefore I got new control arm bushings (aftermarket polyurethane). I still have the vibration... Does anyone know what could it be?

Did you have the car re-alligned and the tires balanced when you put them on?

Yes, I did alligned and balanced it, somedays the car drives good, some other days it doesn't... It's like it has mood swings. THe power steering resevoir is leaking too. I don't know if it has anything to do with it. I want to my car!!!!

try swapping the front tyres and the rear tyres round....this will clarify whether you have a dodgy tyre....also when the wheels are off,,check the rotors/discs for concentricity...they should run true with no movement from a DTI or finger clock...

failing that ,,,,roll bar bushes

check if the wheels are torqued right. 100Nm.

make sure the bolts are all the same length...and the correct length as well.

while replacing control arm bushings, did you look to see if your control arms are good?

need kinda more information. like when does it occur? what speed? etc..

do you have spacers? if so, they could be installed wrong.

does your wheel have hubcentric rings? my ACS came with plastic hubcentric rings. they were made out of plastic, i believe one reason being so it can buffer and bend.

and also it could be your steering fluid.... tahts all i can thnk of

Yeah, please be more specific. I have weird vibrations on my steering wheel when I ran low on ATF in the power steering system. Also, check the wheel-related matters mentioned above. However, since you had the problems from before you got the new wheels, I assume the P/S or perhaps even brakes rotors may have more to do with your problem.

I had this same problem. After much investigation, rotating, balancing and replacing tires, it turned out to be a front break was not releasing all of the way and warped the rotor from the heat. a good way to check to see if this is the problem is to drive until the vibration starts. get out and check to see if any of the brakes are *REALLY* hot. i had to get new breaks and rotors, but the vibration is gone. hth.
