E46 318 ci Shakes on idle.... - BMW Forum

Hi guys. Your help would be much appreciatied on this!!! I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to the mechanical stuff, Sorry.

I have a BMW 318 Ci which has done just over 96k, which i bought around 1 week ago. When i'm at the lights the car jolts slighty, you can also hear that the heater is blowing hi and low when the car jots. It seems to do this for around 10 seconds then it calms down. It does this on a cold start and also when it is hot. Typically the car was fine on a test drive!!

Any ideas...?

I had the same problem. my car would shake like mad at stop lights. a couple time the check engine light would come on at the same time. i have a 99 323 in-line 6. Took it in for diagnostics, turned out I was only firing on 4 cylinders. replaced the ignition coils, problem solved. I would suggest getting a diagnostics run and go from there.

Thanks for reply.

Took it in for diagnosis, turns out that the airflow meter wasn't connected properly so when i was getting to the light the car was unable to breath. A day before i bought the car it went in to have the oil changed. Looks like the mechanic didn't really know what he was doing, lol.

Glad you got that figured out and that was all the problem was... it could have potentially been a very expensive fix!
