How can I resest the oil light on my 1999 323I?

there is an easier way. with key off press and hold the left button on your cluster. while holding turn key to first position. hold button untill it shows in display your remaining miles and then release button and press and hold again. reset will flash and let go and press button without holding this time. You will notice that the miles have been reset.

mine is showing the mileage but is'nt giving me the reset option. but the number with the decimal that follows it is. what does this number represent?

that's what i've been hearing. pin seven and nineteen for three seconds while the key is in the second postion. i tried that just now also and while i'm not sure if the yellow light will pop back on i did notice that the oilservice and mileage still show when turning on my car. ghead

btw- how do i know if my car has obd1 or obd2? i read somewhere that i may be different for a 2000 1/2.
