In any ordinary, consumer CD player, you can hit the "back" button to go to the beginning of a track, then within a second or two hit the "back" button to go back a track.
In my '05 330xi, it's virtually impossible. Press "back" twice or three times in rapid succession only gets me to the beginning of the same track. Press it 4 or 5 times, and I end up back 3 tracks.
When I press the "mode" button to change from radio to CD, it will either 1) show me what's currently playing, 2) wait about 2 seconds then change, or 3) change immediately. It seems to decide randomly which one it will do.
The radio behaves so inconsistently that I find myself having to look away from the road a good deal of the time.
Is this an issue with only my system, or is this a problem for others as well?
(PS I have the NAV option... which sucks as well...).

I love my HK system. No problems at all. It sounds great. My system in my Jeep is over a grand and doesn't sound as good. I don't listen to super loud music, being that I am a musician. I listen to clear lowered music. I can't stand any distortion. I can hit my back button twice and it goes the the previous song. My car is an '04 if that matters. I hear bad things about these systems, but I am very happy. My home unit is like 10 grand. No car system can compete with it, but even so, I am happy with the HK.
I have the stock 8-speaker system (non-HK) and I'm pretty happy with it. I know what you mean, though, when you say...

Its a cool feature but d/mn I wish it worked w/out the randomness.

Not if you have a wife and kid, drive in NYC/Jersey City, and like to drive new cars all the time. I can't be bothered with selling/trading in a car, and don't care about the extra couple of $k.

I personally like to purchase because I don't like to be restricted on modifications and where & how much I drive, but some people are in situations where it just doesnt make sense to purchase. So you really can't generalize everyone's unique situation. Hell, if you finance a purchase you don't start paying for it until a couple of years later so at that point your just buying a used car for alot more....think about it
