I just picked up my new e46 and found out it has a Dinan CAI installed. I plan to install HID projectors, but need to make sure there is room for both. I know there are fitment issues with both on the e36.

i think dinan makes cai that fits either, but it depends on what you have , it might fit. call them, they are very cool about advising people. if that fails, call tischer bmw (silver spring , MD) service, they are also pretty good at helping.
With our Projector46's, you can mount the HID ballasts externally anywhere in the engine bay or bumper so that there will be no clearance issues with your intake.

wat the hell, what kind of e46?
and yea u should be able to do HID projectors though ive heard of clearence issues with factory BIXENON headlights and the intake..
You're confusing me by mentioning both the E36 and the E46 in the same post. Different issues with both.
The E36 Dinan intake does clash with projectors. I solved that problem by removing the CAI support bracket under the headlight and pushing the intake further down. There's more than enough room if you do that, and the rubber boot from the throttle body is quite capable of holding up the CAI without the support bracket.
