Difference Between The 2001 3-series?

Can someone please explain the differences between the 2001 sedans 323i, 325i, and 328i? I am interesting in purchasing one, yet I don't know much about bm's, they look pretty much the same to me. Thanx!

There was no 323 or 328 in 2001.

323 and 328 were 99-00 (coupes only 00). 2001-2005 is the 325 & 330.

The cars are very much the same, with the biggest different being the engine.

323 - 2.5 liter 170 HP/181 ft/lbs
328 - 2.8 liter 193 HP/206 ft/lbs

325 - 2.5 liter 184 HP/175 ft/lbs
330 - 3.0 liter 225 HP/214 ft/lbs

There are some other differences here and there - if you have something specific you want to know, post it up.......

Is there a difference in the body styles? Or is it all in the engine?

Its pretty much just the engine...plus different packages so the rims may be different from model to model.

Yeah, The grills were changed...I'm not sure about width but I see newer models and 330 models with fully chrome grills whiles older models and 325, 323 and 328 had chrome trim grills only. Also the corner lights became upturned and had less yolk in them.

I'm not sure if your question was about cross sectional differences for a certain year (2001) or over the run of the E46.

Look at the whole run if you're shopping around as well. The E46 cars are more diverse over time if you're looking for deviation in body style. But you wont get vast changes between the numbers on the trunk badge during a year period.
