Diff Oil....HELP! - BMW Forum

Hi guys,

Just a quick one, my diff is a little noisy round corners, I have just got the car and the previous owner is telling me

the diff oil is due for a change.

I have got 2 Ltrs of Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip 75W 140 and some Red line Limited Slip Friction Modifier.

i know that the BMW stuff is the best to use but I havent got any handy at the moment so, would the stuff ive mentioned

be okay? Or would I be doing the car misjustice?

I asked my local BMW dealer about diff oil since I need to do this for my '04 E46 as well and he told me they don't sell it (unless you can get someone to hook you up in their repair shop since they have this in barrels) He did tell me that the fluid has a "SAF-XJ" refrence so I did a search and the only one I could find is Swepco 210 Multi-Grade Gear Lube 80 W/140. The thing is apparently it only comes in a $70 gallon which is more than you need but if you ask me it's worth it - I wouldn't just put anything in the differential.
