Dent in 330Ci trunk

I was reversing into my garage and backed up to much (ouch!). Now I have a dent the size of a golf ball in my trunk lid. I have a Black 330Ci coupe 2001. I only bought the car private a few months ago. The warranty is over.
Does anyone know how much I might pay for a new trunk lid to be fitted? Should I go BMW dealer or can any old dealer do this?

Also, can I claim on insurance for this?

Any help would be appreciated!

uhh warranty dont cover these "personal" damages.. going through insurance may be a little wiser depending on ur deductable.. but then you'll face a higher premium.. so im guessing jsu take it to ur local collision repair centers and have them give u an estimate.. and shop around..

Does anyone know if OEM parts like a trunk lid come prepainted or will the repair shop have to paint this?

your looking at 500 up to 1000 dollars when all said and done with paint installing. you are better off going to a dent removel place they specialize in dent removals without paint or if needed they can touch up they probably will fix for 100 or 200 dollars

Thanks. I think a replacement trunk lid goes for about $300 so with paint and install it's probably $1000. I think I'll try dent removal.

Do you find the BMW dealership repair shops charge super high rates than regular repair shops? Any reason why I should stick with BMW repair shop?

this can be almost certainly repaired at about $300 total, even if it requires making a hole to pull the dent out, and patch....

hey i see n bimmer mags that they have cf trunks that weigh like 8 pounds. I dont think they run too expensive and you should get it, paint it, and see how much your handlign would increase. It does make a difference.

I went to the BMW dealer and they told me it would cost $1000 to repair the dent (yikes!) or $1400 to replace with a new trunk lid. The repair estimate had about 4 hours to repair and 4 hours to paint, plus the usual bits and pieces. This was far more than I imagined for repair.

The dent is only pretty small....I will take a pic and put it on next time.

Try a paintless dent removal place. They did a miraculous job on my wife's Jetta. She had severe hail damage on all body panels. Now you cannot even tell there was a problem. Took them 1 day to do the entire car and no painting was needed. I went to a shop that had been around for about 10 years, this was important to me as they warrantied there work.
