i'm taking my car in for the 60k inspection next week(my first real interaction with the service dept) and was just wondering a couple of things:
i scheduled a loaner, is this gona cost me?
has anyone had any bad experiences-i'm kinda worried that they're gonna tell me i need to fix something that really doesn't need it and sting me for big money. the damn inspection is already 550 damn dollars. how do they sleep at night?!

Whether the loaner costs or not is up to the dealer. The one I go to charges a $6 gas fee and that is it. $550!!!!! I got it done at the dealer for right at $300. In your cars owners manual is a list of the services to be performed at inspection 1 and inspection 2 services (60K is an inspection 2). If I remember correctly the only differance is in inspection 2 they change the air filter. Ask what an inspection 1 costs it should be around $300 a little under I think, then ask them why the air filter is $250, the service manager will look at you funny, the "other" BMW dealer in town gave me the same perplexed look when I asked him to justify the quote.

Yes they will nit pick the car most likely telling you that new wiper blades are needed and that they can install them for $50, but you are under no obligation to have anymore work than the agreed on inspection performed. You can most likely do alot of what they reccomend yourself or have it done at an independant garage for less.

so, are these inspections NOT covered under warranty? I've got a ways to go before my first inspection.

I know that the inspection 2 that occurs at roughly 60K is not covered as you have eclipsed the 50K mile warranty marker. I do not know about the inspection 1 that is at about 30K. The inspections are just regularly scheduled maintainance.

the new cars are covered for wear items (filters etc etc). some dealers (if you have a good relationship, i.e. allowed them to rape you on the purchase) will do this retroactively, i.e. even if the car exceeded the 45 k check. try it....
