Clutch or Transmission Noise - Help

used: Hey

I own a 2000 328i sedan. I have been noticing a noise over the normal tire noise while I'm driving. Sound to me like maybe a bearing. The noise goes away if I put in the clutch while driving and kicks back in when I let it out. Could it be the clutch - I feel no slipping going on? The car has 76,000 miles. Any ideas??

Thanks
Jim

Doubt it’s the clutch then you release the clutch the clutch bearing isn’t turning, more likely diff or gearbox. Is it road speed or gear ratio related????

My 1990 525i does the same thing, sounds like a wheeeering noise, until clutch is in. I thought it was the throw out bearing for clutch. The faster I go, the higher pitch it is.
