I bought a 328 on an S (1999) a few months ago and I have noticed a burning smell when I reverse up my drive! The drive does start off fairly steep so I have to put the revs on so it does not stall. Tonight I reversed up the drive and the burning smell poured in to the car through the vents. Revs were perhaps around 3-3 1/2 but for no longer than a couple of seconds. Is this normal?
One thing I have noticed is that the engine oil is just over the max limit. Could this be the problem? This is my first BMW so not sure if this is normal behaviour. I owned a Seat before that and had no problems with smells like that and I would not expect it from a BMW.
