CLUNK in Rear then the squeeking started....Please help :(
Hi,
I have a 2005 320i and I put my car into drive and a clunk noise came from rear passenger side....then the car just started squeeking really bad constantly. In park I move steering wheel side to side and there is no noise. only squeels if I go to drive it.
Damn it...it's a weekend and nothing is open...and I am supposed to work in the morning .
Any ideas...please and thank you
Does the squeak change in pitch if you are moving forwards or reversing, faster or slower? If you are moving and you move into neutral does it still happen?
Is it possible that a gearbox or engine mount has failed totally and its allowing part of the drive shaft or similar part to rub on another component?
It does not make a noise when it not moving....in neutral with brake on an accelerating no noise. It only makes a noise while moving and does not change sound.
Thanks for the replies... All sounds expensive, well the labour anyhow! If it is either of those things, do you think it's safe to drive it to the mechanics on Monday? Or should I get it towed...? My mechanic is about 20 minutes away.
Apparently BMW only supply as a complete unit, however, you can split the UJ as they are usually held in place with circlips !
Maybe try to re-grease it via the nipple !!!

my car did the same thing and the squeaks were the E-brake cables rattling due 2 the failing subframe witch was making the clonking sound.. hopefully this isnt your problem.. bmw charges around $6000 to fix the problem
