I had my car sent in for service yesterday and I got a 2005 320i (automatic /shiftronic) courtesy car. So I thought ill just drive around, it was a nice sunny day after weeks of rain and my friend asks me to drive the car. After an entire day of driving around and just messing about he tells me his Honda accord can outperform the BMW, ok it is a lot faster then the 320i (03 accord v6 240hp) but he also thinks it can out corner, not only this he concludes the Chrysler 300 ( big ass box of an American car ) can out handle the 3 series due to its large wheel base and weight. You could probably guess what I was thinking by this point.
My guess is you have a friend who knows what he is talking about, the 300C hides under the hood some 340HP V8 Hemi engine pulling about 4000 pounds of mass and it is fast for such class/body 0-60 in 6.3 seconds. I am not sure if it qualifies for a BOX:
A. This Chrysler has some Mercedes genes in it.
B. It is Motor trend car of the year 2005.
C. While these cars can not be compared (Apples with oranges) I won't mess with it especially with a Honda, with the 320 2.2-Liter, I6 Of 168hp? Well, give it a try and let us know!
Will the Honda out accelerate you? Absolutely. The Chrysler 300 will as well.
But, ask your friend with the Honda about the horrible torque steer his FWD vehicle has. I can't comment on the Chrysler- haven't driven one. But a long wheelbase doesn't guarantee performance.
I wonder if anyone notices their boring Hondas and Chrysler 300s. Not a week passes when someone at a gas station or parking lot doesn't compliment me on my 10 year old E36 cabrio. Sure, you'll beat me in a drag race, but there's nothing like looking in the mirror and seeing pedestrians turn around to get one more glimpse at your ride...
lets put something in prespective I have a '96 318i with just a strut bar, my friend has a 98 Accord with racing supspension racing tires light wheels CAI Exhaust and the car sits 3" off the ground. When it comes to cornering my car can do it 15 km/h faster on the same turns.
Handling/cornering is the BMW thing.....but when it comes to comparing 168HP/240HP/ and 340HP of a Hemi; more of it ought to echo more power... regardless. But again these cars belong to different classes, they don't compare; 300C vs. Lincoln TC is more like it......
Thats true the power doesnt compare, i know this and i wrote it in the original post but if you wanna compare power how about the 330ci. Not to mention these cars are not even in the same class money or sex appeal

Actually guys Ithink we are all looking at it wrong. We automatically assume that the 300 has the hemi because that all we here about just like Im sure in some 300 chat room they assume all performance BMWs are M3s.
In otherwords, I think we should compare entry level to entry level and performance to performance and top of the line to top of the line. Me personally, I dont see spending all that money for an accord when 5 or 6 more grand you get 325 hp or more with alot better handling. FYI the GTO for 2005 has 400bhp!!! Hemi what?
I thought all American spec'd cars had syrup for suspension as you don't have many corners.. )
(Just kidding!)
I raced a new(ish) Nisan 200 turbo thingy this morning in my 330 and he could not keep up. Those Germans might not win wars, but they sure can build cars. )
oorah exjarhead.
back a turd up a hill!!
Now that is awsome!
Anyways, on to the point. I don't see what is so special about the "hemi" engine anyways. Don't people understand that most cars have a "hemi" in them? Chrysler/Dodge just own the name. A hemispherical combustion chamber, that's all an engine needs to be a hemi. Check out your heads sometime, bet you didn't know you had a "hemi" did you?
Drive on, Bimmerheads.
