SHOULD I GET A SHORT SHIFTER!?????????
I saw some short-shifting articles on this forum, I think. One dude chopped some wood or something and secured it with duct tape on the pedal lever. Worked great.
I think an innovative person could do a less "ghetto" version by getting some hose clamps and some rubber spacer of some kind. Just watch the thickness so you don't burn up your clutch.
We just released our Speed Innovation software available for all E46's. Here is the product page for more information, expect about a 15HP gain with the upgrade.
I'd love to chip my car, but I worry about my factory and CPO warranty. I've heard they can be pretty strict about that.

Not at all, according to the Magnusson Moss Warranty act, your dealership cannot void your warranty due to aftermarket modifications. It is their prerogative to show proof that the said aftermarket modification caused a problem.
For instance, they cannot refuse to replace a faulty window regulator because you have an aftermarket stereo system.
I have a buddy that put a chip on his GTI. It has four different settings and then he can also turn it off for when he takes it to the dealership. It is all controlled by one of the buttons on his turn signal stalk. If you are worried about warranties, get something like that.
