2001 325is I left the gas cap off, then the check engine lights came on etc. I took off the battery to reset the dme etc. Its still on!!! What must/can I do before I take it to the stealers? please help me.....
tighten the gas cap and run the car a bit, it should go away...
but i was told by the dealer that whenever teh light comes on, faulty codes will be roaming around the car and should be erased (or resetted) by the dealer.
My 325i came with a whole insert in the manual about this. Four pages! Just tighten the gas cap and you'll be fine. I believe after the magic elves in the car check three more times and find the fault is gone the CEL will clear. You could, of course, check your manual and it will tell you for sure
Read the manual etc. Tighten the gas cap etc. Drove for a loooooooooonnnnnnnngggggggg time etc. CHECK.........still the CEL. is still on.....anything else. Imma checkout the dealer....thanks anywayz.
It's not how long you drive, it's how many on/off cycles the car goes through. If you've cycled the car on/off 4-5 times and it's still showing up try going to an Autozone or a Shucks and see if they can pull the codes for you. They'll do it for free, and you can find out what the fault is without having to pay the dealership.
