Check Eng Light Question

Hi all,



Had the check Eng light come on on my 2000 323i today. Using the Peake R5/FCX-3 BMW code reader I got the following code Table 15, Code A8 = "Electrical thermostat mechanically jammed open" So does that mean that the coolant thermostat is jammed open? Where do I go from here?

You need a new thermostat,because it went into fail/safe position(open).Not realy expensive thing to repair.

If you're a somewhat capable DIY'er you can probably DIY. All the parts you need to get to are right up front, but you should probably have the Benteley manual, or equivalent, for reference... and , of course the appropriate tools. The part is not expensive <aftermarket>, but getting all the air out of the cooling system after you do this easy swap wil take some time/effort. But it ain't a big deal; just takes some time.
What have you gotten for estimates for this repair from dealers or other service providers?

This is a relativly easy DIY. While your in there if these other items have not been replaced yet you may want to look at doing them too. Water Pump, Hoses, and the expansion tank. You can find the parts pretty cheap online from places like pelicanparts, bimmerzone and autohausaz.com. If you aren't a Do it yourselfer (DIY) then look into a reputable independant (INDY) shop.
