Cd Headunit Question - BMW Forum

Apologies if this has been asked before, didn't get much luck with the search function.

Just asking this on behalf of my brother in law.

Has a 51 plate, BMW Compact 318 and needs to know if the standard CD headunit has a pre-out to allow an external amp to be connected.

He wants to upgrade but doesn't want the hassle of replacing the whole unit. Any advice would be much appreciated.

There are no RCA outputs on the deck.

I still use my stock HU. I will be changing it but there is no rush. The sound of the stock system in abominable., and as the previous poster said there are no RCAs. First thing to do is put some efficient components in the front. Look for components of 91 sb or greater sensitivity. This Alpine model is a steal in UK at the moment. Obviously there are better on the market but these will work well with the stock HU.

After that take the rear speaker feed to drive an amp and sub. Use pin 16 from the rear of the deck to switch amp on (see picture). Leave rear speakers disconnected.
