car made a load bang and now doesnt move

i have a bmw 316ti compact and i was driving and i set off clutch down and feeding the gas and started to drive then i heard a loud bang and now i cant move the car in any gear and there is a rattleing noise near rhe back of the car and i leave the car in gear whilst the engine is running and the car doesnt stall or turn off with out the clutch i can basically get out the car with it in reverse and walk off and it wont stall i am panicing i dont no what the f is up with it and i just bought it

Sounds like a rear shaft universal joint has failed (or even the diff)!! Not a major repair but you'll need another car for a while !

Does the rattling noise change with the revs when its in gear?

Can you isolate where the noise is coming from when out side of the car. Probably diff like Dabsy suggested.

Jack the rear off the ground (axle-stands), and run the motor in gear and notice/locate any unusual noises from the rear (get under her)...
