California Emissions Fuel Tank?

I had my car serviced by a BMW specialist and he told me that my car has some type of california emmissions fuel tank which houses the fuel pump in the middle of the fuel tank. If this is true then he said that the tank and pump would have to b replaced as a unit and is very very costly. Has anyone ever heard of this and if so what should I do. I live in New Jersey so it comes as a big surprise to me that i have a california car My fuel pump seems fine now but the car is a 2003 325i and I dunno if that type of huge investment is warranted if need b.

If it seems fine then why are you having it looked at? I'm confused to what you asking.
