A/C Cuts out when it rains - BMW Forum

My AC cuts out in my 1999 323i when it rains or the car gets wet.
Is this normal, or is there a sensor I need to check?

to tell you the truth, i'm lost on your a/c situation. i have never heard of that. maybe there will be someone here that have had that or will know what to do.

personally, i would just take it in to the service and have them run a diagnostic to see if they can locate the problem.

o that is definitely not normal.

does the airflow completely stop? or do you still have airflow, but it is just not cold?

i ask because i am thinking if there is air (but it is warm), there may be a short to ground with one of the wires running to the compressor or compressor relay. check fuses 16 and 39, which go the compressor relay, which in turn controls the compressor.

i had a problem once when i hosed down the engine bay, and my a/c stopped getting cold. it turns out the water grounded a frayed wire against the compressor body.

The compressor turns off so it starts to get warm in the car.

it has about 120,000 km which is about 65000 miles

My A/C compressor clutch went out @ 47k miles... I actually had the Fan working but the A/C was totally out. Check that out.

1. clutch switch gets wet and shorts
2. the little tube that leaks condensation out is clogged.
3. some other short somewhere.

this sounds like the compressor itself is ok.

check for obvious bad connections or shorts. Check the pressure switch on the drier behind the pass. headlight
