I would like to spend between $23-$30k on either an M3 or 3-series with manual transmission. I have driven a 325Ci and like it a lot, but wonder if I should go for more power. I'm coming from an '85 Porsche 911 - loved it, but need a bit more creature comfort (pwr steering)!!

Any advice/experiences are greatly appreciated!

Get the higest end '04 3 series you can afford. An old M has no warranty and will need much upkeep.

30k is thin pickings.

e36 m3 has almost the same power as current e46 330. hanlding marginally better but....(vide supra)

i think the best option is to get a e46 330ipp. even after a 911, you will not be dissapointed. i have abrand new one (42k), and is it &*^&ing magnificent!!!

i saw ads in the roundel and autoweek for 36k used. stretch the budget mano.
