I just bought a 2000 323i from a BMW dealership with 57,000 miles on it. It's still under warranty. It came with everything but HIDs. I've had no problems with it so far. I wouldn't be worried abotu the *year*, I'd be worried about that particular car. Where are you getting it from? Since mine comes from a dealership, I'm not worried. I would be if I got it elsewhere.

There is one thing I would worry about - transmission , but if this car is equiped with STEPTRONIC, if is manual you are OK ! On this particular model and year steptronic tranny often fail at 60 000 plus miles (bad designe) BMW will not admit it, so better if you can buy at least warranty for transmission ! otherwise this cars are pretty good . Take care !
I got mine for 19k at 49,000 miles. sure, they can be found for cheaper, but mine was an excellent example.

I have a 2000 323i and I am really pleased with it. Mine has done 57,000. Only problem I've had is the Aux Fan to the radiator had a fault, which has now been repaired.
I have owned this car for 10 months and it is great!
The Steptropic is a weak part. I had to have replaced on the used 323i I bought at about 90,00 M.. It cost me about $3700 at an upscale shop. The local dealer would have charged me another $1K, although they would have given me a loaner.
