| Does anyone know what the BMW 2003 3-Series bumper ratings are? I thought I remembered reading somewhere they prevent damage (except to the bumper) up to 9mph, and I'm not sure what the bumper itself can withstand before damage. Of course, I've tagged my wife's car pretty good a couple times roaring up the driveway and never sustained damage. But then again I'm running into another bumper and not a fixed barrier.
This may seem like an overly detailed question, I'm only asking because I happened upon the IIHS' ratings of "marginal" for the 2003-2005 BMW 3-series during a "low speed collision". Of course, they do 4 tests and only give one rating, so maybe performance was great in 3 tests but horrible on the 4th.
Besides, ever since I saw Consumer Reports purposely make a Suzuki rollover and Dateline NBC "help" a minivan explode into flames, I've always taken independent third party evaluations with a hint of suspicion.
Any opinions? I know modern day bumpers are crap compared to what they used to be. |
