I'm on a roadtrip, far far from home, and the brake pad light came on today. How long can I drive my car before taking it to the dealer? I'll be driving mostly on highways, thanks guys,
Dealer most likely will charge anywhere from $200-300 for each "axle". That is just for the pads, sensors, and labor. If the rotors need changed also, then its more.
I just paid $244.50 for the rotors, pads and sensor for the front brakes at the dealership. I changed them in 4 hours, but that includes the hours I spent pushing some left over ATE Super Blue through the brake lines, waiting for it to turn blue at the calipers. And, then pushing brand new ATE DOT 4 gold through until it flowed gold again at all of the calipers.
Next time I will try to completely drain the whole system and use a power bleeder. This would save a lot of time.
But, $470 is pretty good, I was expecting $1,000 or I would have considered the dealership. For the first time in my life, my time is starting to get valuable enough that it may make sense to pay them to do it. Although I have some trust issues to work out first.
