Just got an 08 328i. I am noticing that brake dust blackens the rims very fast. Within a week the rims are filthy. I have never seen so much brake dust collect so quick.
Questions is....is there a "spray on, rinse off" type wheel cleaner that I can do once a week so it doesn't build up so much between washes?
I know that every auto parts store has 20 something different wheel cleaner brands, I was just wondering if you bimmer guys recomend any particular brand that works well.
I always use Wonder Wheels every 2 weeks or so, it also depends alot on what quality brake pads you have fitted, I have ones called green stuff, they are quite good and the dust is not to bad.

I stepped in a plate of Pasta the other day - now I have to worry about my Carbonara footprint!
The brake pads are the factory pads. They must use a material that wears fast because the dust collects very fast.
The 2006 Acura TL we just traded in didn't get dirty nearly as fast. You could go 3-4 weeks before it looked bad. I guess BMW just uses a softer material.

Marti, those are good pads. What do you pay for them roughly over there? I know they are damn expensive here.
We sell a ceramic brake pad from Akebono that eliminates all of that dust. You will never have dust again, ever. Right now I don't have the 2008 328i, but have them for a lot of other BMW's. We also have several kits that do the entire car which include the Akebono Pads and either Brembo or Zimmerman rotors, and sensors for around $300. You can find them at our site:
I'm using Carbon Metallics on all 4 corners. Brake dust is greatly reduced on the front. The factory rear pads were never much of a dust problem. Once the pads warm up the braking is very good.
Get yourself a round kitchen/cleaning brush used to clean bottles, toilets, etc. They're soft enough not to scratch the finish and get into the smaller openings between the spokes, around the lug nuts, etc. Alot of wheel cleaners are a mild acidic solution which work well with the above brush. In a pinch Simple Green works well, too.
