Brake change question

Does the pad wear indicator come on when its desperately time to change brakes or when your are close to the end of the pads life?

I want to change mine, but am not sure if I should wait until the light comes on

Why do you want to change the pads now? If there is still plenty of pad material left, let it run a bit longer (if they are still stopping the car), otherwise change them before the light comes on otherwise you have to change the sacrificial sensor as well.

brettski's right...change before the sensor trips or you have to replace that too.

I was eager to put ceramic pads on to help with brake dust...but I made myself wait until the brakes needed replacing.
