Hey Guys,

I bought some smoked corners for my '99 E46 328i - they are the right shape and everything however they don't seem to slide in and lock properly like the stockers. The light will hook on the clip to hold it in but there's no click like stockers. Also, it seems like it wants to sit so close to the headlamp portion that it won't sit flush. Am I doing something wrong? OR Is there a way to tweak the mechanics that the light slides into so that it will sit off the headlamp a little... so it would be stock looking?

Thanks! They aren't on the car right now.. I don't want my car to look 3rd rate. I have a couple emails into the company that I bought them through without a response. If they don't attempt to satisfy the customer I'm going to get real personal on some of these forums. =\ I just want a working product, and I want this guy to make sure he gets his money.. that way it's a win-win situation.

I had the same problem with my smoked lenses. I spent hours playing with my first set two years ago, now I am on my third. ghead

The only time I was successful without either breaking the plastic tabs or chipping off a piece of the corner lens itself was when I went to my dealer and found a tech who could do it for me.

There are some that are easier than others, but I have found that the recent ones that I have purchased are the most difficult. According to the tech, he had to bend some piece a little bit on the inside of my car to accomodate the plastic tabs on the smoked lens.

Sorry I don't have any more details other than I would ask your dealer if he could help.

Good luck.

I presume these are aftermarket, not OEM... Has anyone had problems with OEM lights??

RichReg, Thanks.. I'll fiddle around with it more. It's been three or four days and the guy I bought them from has not responded to my emails attempting to get it worked out. It's a bummer b/c if he would work with me I would buy some red/clear tails from him. =\ I noticed where the corners connect there are two metal tabs so maybe that's what you bend.

Fangs, these are not stockers. I'm sure that the OEM clears would be just fine however I have never seen smoked OEM otherwise i would have spent the extra money.

Hmm... I might be see the bulbs being a problem but not the housings. This is just the plastic housing for the corners. Although I'll have to get new bulbs. =\

Just a follow-up - I tried installing them again just to see what I could find out. Well, the front smoked portion is just too big. I was comparing them to stock and it appears that they were slightly oversized around the edges. There's just no way without shaving the clear corners that they'll fit.

I left another email with the company since they haven't responded and I called and left a message. I'll probably have to call again on Monday. I don't want to name the company until things get resolved, but if it can't be you'll certainly get a scathing review from me on a few bmw forums!

nosuchsol;

I've never had a problem with the actual shape of the corner lens, nor have I ever had any OBC problems and I've had both front & rear smoked lenses since day one. You may want to double check that you didn't receive corners for the 328Ci model instead of the 328i, as they are different.

One more note: there is something different about the smoked lens' bulbs vs. stock bulbs or maybe even the little plastic housing for the bulb. It burned out on me once and my dealer gave me a hard time replacing it under warranty. In the end they took care of me, but they apparently couldn't use the bulbs they had in stock.

Thanks,

Yah, I talked to the company and am going to send them back and he'll give me a new pair. They are for a 328i due to shape, but it just appears that the smoked housing is just too large. If the next ones come in and are the same way then I'm going to give up on the whole situation, but still give the company positive feedback. He has them on his sisters car(owner does) and said he didn't have any problems. So we'll see... it might just be me. I even tried again and figured if they didn't sit exactly like stock that would be ok, but when I got them on they were not the same on each side. =(

Update:

Well, I returned the lights in hopes to get a new pair. When the company recieved them they said they I must have not been pushing hard enough and offered to send that pair back to me or give me a refund. I went for the refund. I left prostreetlighting positive feedback for their willingness to give me a refund on the product. It would have been nice for them to fit but that's ok.

Went ahead and ordered a new set(and got rears too) through Bimmian.com. That way I'll get the bulbs also and a product that I was told WILL fit.

Thanks!

I'm assuming you mean Euro Persona Motorsport - I'm sure I'd use them for one of the 13 products they have for the e46 listed on their website someday, however I like being able to see pictures and have listed prices for products. Maybe it's a security thing.
