After many months of searching, I finally found (and bought) my first Bimmer. I was torn between a used 2000 328i and 2001 330i, but went with the 328i because I saved about $5k, no drive-by-wire, and no clutch delay valve. It might be slightly less powerful, but great to drive.
The car appears to be in strong shape, average mileage for the year, fully loaded, except no nav, and no 6-disc changer. Has sport/prem. package, HK, heated seats, dark tints on windows (hopefully not illegal). Looks like the previous owner took good care of it. Clutch feels good, engine is strong. All electronics work, and rims are in reasonable shape. It is missing the two clip faceplate on the back bumper, but it was on order from BMW, so should come soon.
I will post more once I go over it thoroughly at home, as I will likely have many questions. Check out the picture below! What do you think?
Thanks, guys. I drove it home today (I bought it out of state). Nice three and a half hour ride. I am going to go over it with a fine tooth comb tomorrow after work, but I love it so far...the engine sounds great! I had it up to 100mph for just a moment or two on a deserted stretch of interstate and it didn't even blink.
Looking forward to reading much more on this forum...
All right, I cannot believe I haven't bought one of these sooner. I knew I would like it, but DAMN, this car is a blast to drive! I do have a few minor things I am wondering if you guys can help me with:
1. Rusty lug-nuts on wheels? Do they make caps for them, or do I have to buy new ones?
2. What is the best way to secure a very small piece of headliner by the rear window? Maybe some fabric adhesive?
3. Can I get an extra key cut that does NOT have a computer chip...just an extra spare to open doors and start ignition?
4. I am missing the cover for the tow hook on rear bumper. Are these easy to replace? How much?
Enjoy Nic, I love my car, same year and model as yours. It was a nice step up from the '90 Accord.
I bought an '02 325i about a year ago, and love it. It was a nice step up from an '89 240DL. I can completely relate to you.
