BMW timing belt ? distributor ?

I have heard that BMW's do not have timing belts nor distributors? If so, how does the valves time themselves against the piston and what does it use to create spark?

BMW's usually have timing chains not belts. (There are execptions) The no longer have distributors, since they have gone to electronic ignition they have cam positions sensors and crank positions sensors to tell the computer how to advance or retard timing.
