I dunno about the German ones....but since the cars here in the US are imports too....My business CD does NOT play MP3s.......youll need a PHAT sound hard drive or a usb drive dapater for the cd player or replace it with a player that does play MP3s...lotsa aftermarket ones out there. Problem is it is a pain on the wallet and in the ass to get them retrofitted in Bimmers......hope this helps.....I would say get a 6 CD changer.....with 18 songs each....that about a 100 songs at a go.....should be enough for about a 5 hour drive...:-)

Using both the WMP and Nero Burning Rom with a standard Philips CDRW drive Ive been able to make several MP3 CDs that play just fine in my 2005 325i.
FWIW.

well i hope they put the mp3 player in the u.s. version of the e90 because thats all i have in my e30. i only carry 2 or 3 cd's now because my head unit plays mp3!!!!
I took a different approach. I have the Business Cassette and 6 disk changer. As far as cassette decks go it is actually alright. I also got one of those cassette adaptors that people used to use for their cd walkman to connect it to a car. I use this to connect my Ipod. The quality is more than acceptible for MP3. So I have AM/FM/Cassette/CD/MP3 without spending megabucks. (that went into the rest of the system)
