Bmw 318ci

I drive a 318 coupe 2001 with the 118hp engine and tiptronic gearbox, its a great all rounder apart from the lack of initial acceleration when turning out onto main roads. When I do put the foot down, the engine pauses, then surges up the revs, but with no go, all noise, and no torque. I've spoken to the dealer and they say it's because it's a 1.9litre with an automatic, and the automatic isn't suited to said engine. Any tips from getting optimum performance out of an otherwise perfect motor?

the only tip i could offer is

leave it in 1st gear,,,not drive then allow it to rev,,,then put into drive....i have the manual version,,,and that isnt very good either...it really needs a good revving...once it is going it is fine

thats the difference between the 4 and 6 cyylinder beemers.....
thats why they says ours arent proper bmw's
