ghead I have been suffering form some belt noise on cold mornings on my 330i. It is only on initial start-upp and lasts less than a minute, but it is very annoying, and a little embarrassing. It has been to the dealership who cannot find a problem. After complaining to the dealer principle I managed to get them to replace the alternator belt and tensioners on Saturday. This morning it was cold, 3 degrees, and the noise is still there. Any ideas what it could be? ghead used
If its an irritating squealing sound you may want to try belt dressing. I had that problem on a cool, rainy night. Sprayed a little STP Belt Dressing on the alternator belt and haven't had a problem since. Just a thought. Good luck.

If it's a cold morining noise only I would suggest taking it in and seeing if your car falls under the tensioner service action campaign...basically the mechanical tensioners suck and if you have the mechanical tensioner it is replaced with a hydraulic tensioner....being since yours is an 01 I'd say that could be the cause of your squeel.
