Ambient temperature sensor

Hi - I have a BMW 318i E46 2001 and the ambient temp sensor is faulty. The temperature scans readings between + 50 and -40 deg C. Not having to view the ambient temperature is not my problem. The sensor is linked to the aircon control and during temp readings between -39 to -7 the aircon deactivates.
Iv'e tried removing the sensor, bridging the sensor but still the temp readings scan. Is there anyway I can bypass the the reading from the sensor to the aircon control so that the aircon is always available or do I have no option but to replace the sensor?
