I recently bought a 2001 330 xi. After really reading my manual, I noticed that the clown nose should flash when the alarm is active and that the turn signals should flash upon locking the car with the remote. I know that there is a factory alarm installed, is it something that might need to be reset or something else? Any ideas?
I forgot to throw this in with the last one. Also, does anyone if i can lower my car at all? I have heard that because it is all wheel drive, that it can not, or shouldn't, be lowered. I just wanted to drop it like an inch and put some different rims on it. These Illinois winters are killing my rims. Also, It recommends in the manual that I do not put any bigger size tire (wider or lower profile). Can I go a little wider at all? I really don't like the 17 x 7 look on it.

How do you know ,you have alarm installed ? Alarm is an option on these cars, so no clown nose flashing, no turn signals flashing upon locking -simply no alarm !
it shows an alarm on original invoice....the sheet that hangs in the window to show the options. so i assume it would have it. is it somewhere easy to find to see if it is installed?

Did you buy this car from BMW dealer or something else ?
Basically all these cars have electronic immobilizers, but no alarms.
one way to know for sure is to pop out the little box on the roof in the middle. if it is empty, then you don't have an alarm. if you see a little black box filling in the space, then yes you have the alarm. if you have the alarm installed, but is not activating correctly, you will need to take the car in to the service dept and have them activate the alarm. depending on the dealerships, you are looking between $35-$55 just to activate it. but first, check to see if you have it installed.
I have the same dilemna. No "beep" when I click the door lock button, and not clown nose illumination. But there is a little blinking red light on the radio that blips on and off when the car is locked.
I should just ask the dealer, eh?
