I'm looking for some basic advice. I have an old style 5 series estate. It's having a service at a BMW garage. They just called to say that various major things need replacing (eg catalytic converter for £700).
I need to work out whether I really need to fork out for all the items, whether only some are essential, or whether I should just ditch the car.
As you quote £700 I am guessing you are in UK? There is a company called Eurocarparts who specialise in european cars, including BMW. The catalog quotes 5-series cats from £280 - £350 (plus post and VAT).
I get most of my stuff from them and get them fitted by a non-bmw garage. Cuts the cost in half at least
