'99 E46 SRS light on, cores read

hi,

i bought my car with the SRS light on. I checked today with a snap-on universal code scanner and I got these codes:

- internal ECU error
- left and right igniter circuits (seat belt tensioners)

when I tried to erase the codes i got "codes erasing failure".

I was thinking to start by purchasing the ECU. is the SRS ECU part # 270651893824 on ebay? because on realoem I can find no SRS ECU in the diagrams.

Where is the SRS Ecu positioned in car?

Before starting investing in expensive parts.Change first ignition switch(around $70.00 or less original part on line-rockauto.com), then reset fault codes with good air bag code reader for BMW cars.Hope it help.Let me know.

are you talking about the part located under the central armrest?

Ignition switch! Inside steering wheel column.Behind your key barell(where you insert car key).Access from the top of steering wheel column.Search "youtube" how to do it

ok, now I understand, I was thinking at the igniter switch

so how could the ignition switch cause those errors that I am reading to show up and not be erasable?

When ignition switch starts failing.funny things also start happening(some dashboard lights with no reason light up during driving,car does not starts right away when you switch ignition on or starting is dalayed few seconds with no dashboard lights at all for a moment.That was my case.Changed switch ,reset air bag light no problem any more.Dealership wanted $700.00 for some rewireing according to them should cure the problem my air bag light.Thanks God did not go for that.Took me 20 minutes to change it.It is "plug and play".
