99 E46 P/S Leak

Apparently the cap on my power steering pump is leaking like crazy, I dont see any cracks but I noticed that there is no gasket, so it is a plastic on plastic seal. Is there supposed to be a seal here??

Also, what type of fluid can I use to refill it once I get the leak fixed?

Check the manual, but generally ps systems use auto tranny fluid.

It says right on the cap ATF, but is it a specific kind for BMW's or anything crazy like that? In the manual it says you cant fill it yourself, so apparently recognizing the low line and the high line is way to mathematical for common folk and can only be done by a tried and true certified BM doubleya mechanic! LOL

AFAIK, any late version of ATF is fine.

I'm sure the cap should have some sort of gasket.
