335d - No XDrive option...Winter handling?

Hello all-

I was curious as to how the 335d handles in the snow/ice? We don't typically get a ton of snow during winter (southern Indiana), but the customer I'm working with has indicated that they want XDrive. Also, if anybody can provide a brief explanation as to why the XDrive is unavailable on the 335d, that would be fantastic. I thought it had something to do with the diesel engine, but the X5 35d has XDrive, and I can't seem to find an explanation in the BMW facts book. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

Simply because it was only used on the 2001 3 series as a taster and they thought it wasn't selling enough smaller BMW's with the x-drive so the option was deleted !
