The power steering just quit working. No problems until now it just stopped working. I can't find any info. on it. 2001 model with 80,000 miles. I would love any help.
I have a 2005 330i with 85,000 miles. The power steering stopped working. Drove it, parked it, got back in and no power steering. The belt is still intact, fluid levels good. What else could it be? I've been hearing a "cricket" noise, but I suspect it is a separate issue. No prior noises indicating a pump failure. Could the pump just give up like this? Could it have something to do with the "power steering assist"?
Does the power steering come to life once you have a little bit of speed up? I read about an electronically controlled valve on another model that takes its input from one of the General control modules, at low speeds the GM is supposed to open the valve to increase the pressure supplied to the system, and then closes the valve once your above a certain speed. Maybe its something like that, maybe not.??
