I just picked up a blue 330CI, I deal alot with salvaged cars and this one was hit in the front, the previous owner replaced the front body parts and it ran fine but it needed a new head, they replaced the head and now it will not start, the car has not been delivered yet so I am going on what they are telling me but they think the computers have to be reset...does anyone know if this will be a serious problem or if I have to take it to BMW? Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.
front end colisions can cause so many possiblities for problems, you and i both know that. im not sure whos doing the work on the car. but unless they know bmws inside and out, id be a little skeptical as to what exactlly they are doing. it could be just a patch up job to get the thing working for a month who knows...... if you have problems with the ECU that its expensive to fix, cant be that much of a problem to replace it, however its the long term affects id be more concerned about... do you have pictures of the car ?? with the damage and inside the hood?
btw if it actually does get up and running good, what do you think? I paid $16k for it, its an 03, 330CI salvage title in great condition...I have a supra now and was going to use it for a daily driver once if all turns out ok.
spoke with the company that fixed the car and they said it cost them $18k to fix and the car starts but it has a speed limiter and wont go over a certain speed. and he put it in auction because he didnt have anyone to reset the computer.
16K sounds a bit too high for a car that has a salvage title and may not be in great working condition. The vehicle looks awesome but like some one said I wud have gone a little lower maybe around 11-13K and saved the the 3 K for repairs (I am sure yure goin to have some). For 6K more you can pick up a used 01-or 02 325i which will serve you far better for a daily drive (as yu mentioned) than a 330i with salvage.
Not to discourage yu tho now that yu prolly have made that purchase. I would maitain that car and keep some extra cash handy for some repairs. Get the car shown to a dealer and have the speed limiter removed......(no use having a 330Ci witha speed limiter).....and yu have yurself a fine ride..........the car looks awesome if it works.
