I just bought a 2002 325XI. It has 116000km on it. It burns around 15Lit/ 100km in the city. I don't think it's normal. Engine light is off and computer check says O2 sensors are fine. Any suggessions as to how to improve it.

My drive to work is mainly through a hwy but during rush hours it even worse than city streets. I changed the air filter about two weeks ago. It has improved a little bit but that much that I was expecting. I have no abnormal indicator light on. I'm taking to my mechanic for tune up & detail inspection next week however prior to that I just wanted to have a couple of good ideas of what might be going wrong. Can it be the timing chain?
I've driven it for almost 2000km by now ... so far everything is quiet ... I'm not sure when the last detail inspection was done or better to say I'm not sure whether or not it was done ... Guess I have to rush it to my mechanic.

I have a 2004 325Xi. Combined avg economy I get about 10.5 L per 100k (27.5 Mi to Cdn gallon). It breaks down into 9.0 l / 100k hwy and 11.5 l / 100km city (60/40 split city/hwy). If you are seeing 15, that is a bit high, even for a heavy foot. I would check with your dealership.
Thanks all for your advice. Just so you know, I checked the spark plugs, they seemed too old and out of tolerance. I changed them to NGK Irridium, it works a lot better now. Acceleration and power is significantly improved from what it was. I'm keep going through the list of inspection II and see whatelse is remained to do. Next stop is the rear rotors and brake pads.
