We are installing a new stereo in a 325i, year 2001. the stereo model is a Kenwood KDC-248U. We spliced the new wires onto some connectors and used the original bmw stereo connector with this diagram:

We are aware it is the 1995 connector but it matches the current ones specs.
We currently have all the wires connected to the best of our knowledge and the power to the stereo unit turns on and plays, but the speakers do not play any sound.
As you could see in the diagram^^^ there are connections called "12v switched". we have all the speaker wires connected correctly but we are not too sure on whats the deal with the 12v switched.
